Welcome, I'm so glad you found the site! It is my firm belief that all women have an inherent right to be well supported by a "birthing team" during pregnancy and childbirth. Sadly, many women are not, and this is unacceptable to the child birthing community. Historically, childbirth has been a community event, a time for women to come together, share their wisdom, and provide encouragement. Today, most women labour and birth without the benefit of continuous, knowledgeable, experienced, and empathetic "woman centered support." Naturally compassionate and nurturing, the doula and partner work in tandem to help a woman strive for a safe and satisfying birth, as she defines it.
What is "woman centered support?" Simply put, it is the acknowledgement that a birthing woman is a human being, and not just a collection of anatomical parts. A woman's need for emotional support, a sense of safety, the protection of her dignity, and the assurance that she is being heard is not suspended during childbirth. This is where my life's passion lays, and this is what I dream of for all women, everywhere.
